The agricultural tractor is a self-propelled vehicle.
The steam and crawler tractor was invented by the Russian Fyodor Blinov in 18811.

The tractor developed in France with the motorization of agriculture after the First World War and took off in the 1950s. Farmers saw their draft animals requisitioned by the army during the Second World War, they had no more horses or oxen to tow their carts. The tractor did not really make its mark on all farms until the 1960s.

The agricultural tractor in its most classic form has four wheels, the rear wheels are motor and larger diameter than the front wheels. The driving position of the tractor may be open or consist of a cab in which the driver sits on a single seat in the center. Modern tractors are more comfortable (suspended cab, air-conditioned, pneumatic seat).

Since the end of the 1980s, the advent of embedded electronics has led to the development of "driving aids". Thus, a number of recurring operations triggering during U-turns at the end of fields for example can be programmed by the user. Most new tractors are sold with an on-board computer to monitor all tractor parameters and detect a potential problem.

As a versatile machine, the tractor is sometimes challenged by the development of self-propelled machines designed to perform a specific job (combine harvesters, self-propelled treatments, etc).
